Caring for our community

Our View

The Association’s view is ….

… that EVERYONE is entitled to their view.

The MWRPA is the only source in the Ryde area for unbiased reporting. Why? Because we are not aligned with any media organisation or political party. Sure, we all have our individual views on all facets of what’s happening in the area, but its YOUR association – whatever your political leaning or the newspaper you read.

And speaking of newspapers, you’ll probably notice a bias in the established media. In some you’ll find that a particular “side” will get no coverage or their positives turned into negatives. You’ll be aware that editorial coverage is quite often linked to advertising dollars spent. This becomes “advertorial” and some would even say cash for coverage.

Earlier this year, this association decided to re-visit how we disseminate information. None of the editorial in our newsletters or our website is paid for or directed by anyone other than paid-up members. We accept sponsorship in newsletters and on the website but sponsors give no weight to our direction. If you own a business and you’d like to sponsor, please contact us.

We no longer distribute a regular “free” newsletter to residents. Its not because we don’t want to, but the cost and responsibility was far outweighing the benefits. The “free” newsletter was distributed by volunteers and the cost to provide insurance for the safety and well-being of these volunteers was becoming prohibitive.  We made a decision to support our members first – and do a free distribution when needed.

You can be sure to be retained on our “friends” list by becoming a member or renewing your subscription. It costs only twenty cents a week to be a member and have a voice – but we’d rather you paid $10 annually or $5 for concession membership.

You’ll find out a lot if you come to our (now) monthly members’ meetings which – for the remainder of 2013 – will be held at West Ryde Library on the second Thursday each month, commencing at 6pm.

Support Ryde’s only independent provider of news for residents.
